Decision Day

 

 After spending about an entire week trying to work with both inDesign and Premier Pro, I can say sincerely that my first impressions were not great, especially with the second one mentioned ( premier pro ).

 Premier Pro, despite its great features and relative simplicity, was not the right software to use in my opinion; the school restrictions that made it almost impossible to transfer the two minute video, and when trying to get things done in a short period of time can be really frustrating and upsetting. The “solution” of downloading it on a device at home and uploading outside school hours, while being effective for most of us, did not take into consideration those who do not have the needs necessary to do so, which was unfair. Once the complications were gotten a hold of, it was fun to play around with it and create all sorts of fun effects. One thing it could do better than InDesign is storytelling as it would be more visually active and clear, and this is a huge thing. The software is great in the showing of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, which, as mentioned by “Our Place in the Universe: The Importance of Story and Storytelling in the Classroom”, cannot help but be employed as the story is crafted, polished, and told. The article also mentions that a story being seen for the first time helps us shape our own fresh perspective on the issue or argument being talked about, and being able to create something simple and visually pleasing and entertaining is important.

 InDesign, while keeping the same issue of school restrictions, was a lot easier to operate, more fun to use, and overall better. It is faster than PremierPro and offers more options with creativity which while keeping it friendly to those who are not familiar with the system. The software, on contrary of PremierPro, encourages the user to use more literature as it is mostly used for magazines. The article “Survival of the Fittest: Four Editors on the Future of Literary Magazines” shows contrasting ideas on how the industry has changes and magazines are becoming less and less popular among the people and even writers themselves. Despite this, they offer a great deal of information to the public, and depending on which you choose, you might see different perspectives on politics and lifestyles.

 For these reasons I decided to go on with the magazine project rather than the short film. The simplicity and effectiveness of using words combined with still images seems more appealing to work with than a video. Working with partners on this will also be less complicated.
